Practical Advice

by Jo Rodriguez

/

about

Jo's first new studio recording in over a year, this time recorded in her bedroom studio in Colorado before being finalized at Sunnyvale. The title is a reference to her song Practical Effects, and is a reminder to herself and everyone else to break the bad patterns in their lives.

lyrics

Cut your losses and find a new home
Be happy that you haven't ended up alone
Be happy for the people who keep you in their lives
Be happy and be glad you have survived

You gotta cut yourself some slack
You can't keep keeping up with an
Imaginary pack
No one's disappointed
And no one's keeping time
You'll get there when you get there by and by

Your shame lives in the gap between
Expectations and reality
You're not a perfect person
But no one really is
So why are you the one you can't forgive?

You gotta stop falling in love so fast
You gotta get your shit together and move on from your past
You see how it affects you
and also those you love
You gotta do the work to rise above

Think through your words before you speak
Consider those you love, and those you've yet to meet
Take solace in the fact that you haven't fucked up yet
You're doing better than you thought don't you forget

Your shame lives in the gap between
Expectations and reality
So temper what you think, and what you think you'll get
Cause no ever owed you nothing yet

Your shame lives in the gap between
Expectations and reality
You're not a perfect person
But no one really is
So why are you the one you can't forgive?

You've gotta grow up someday
I promise kid, you'll be okay
Take all the parts of you
Examine them and see
A human being just like all the
people you look up to
Like everyone you hate
Like all your friends and family

Therapy and medication
Can only get you so far
You've gotta do the work
Apologize and break the patterns
You've gotta do the work
Apologize and break the patterns
You've gotta do the work
Apologize and break the patterns
